Scenic drive is the gateway to some of Northern Humboldt’s most beautiful beaches and coves. Visitors and locals alike come here to catch a wave, or a sunset, or to explore the rugged coastline this area is known for. Scenic Drive used to connect the small community of Trinidad to the even smaller Westhaven, but the road is no longer passable.

California Brown Pelicans have made a remarkable recovery after being placed on the endangered species list in 1970. The smallest of the eight species of pelicans has a wing span of 6-8 feet, and is known for gracefully skimming the surf and spectacular dive bombing of hapless fish.
The Samoa Peninsula is the 9 ½ mile long natural land barrier responsible for the calm of northern Humboldt Bay. The peninsula offers a multitude of recreational choices including a favorite break of local surfers, and a place for off-roaders to test their skills.
On the beautiful shoreline of the Pacific Northwest coast, a few miles north of Mckinleyville lies this gem. Hidden from view of the motorists on 101, it remains a favorite of Humboldt county residents.

The Little River plots its course to the Pacific through the shifting sand. Located a few miles north of Mckinleyville CA, the Little River’s mouth has migrated north over the years, encroaching onto Moonstone Beach.
California Gulls are year round resident of Humboldt County. The accomplished scavengers have a golden statue in Salt Lake City, and were named the state bird of Utah after ridding the Mormon settlers of a plague of grasshoppers.
Among the first railroads on the west coast, cars on these tracks have been powered by everything from horses too diesel engines. Built to get the massive redwood logs whose immense size and weight did not allow for normal lumbering practices to the mills, they played a vital role in the booming timber industry for over a century.
