“To those whom the sea sustained, and also claimed...” The Statue at the western tip of Woodley Island in Eureka CA was created by artist Dick Crane. Sponsored by the Commercial Fishermens Wives of Humboldt through community donations, it was dedicated in 1981.
The newest addition to Eureka’s waterfront has captured the spirit of the Victorian seaport, by adding a boardwalk and harbor view homes. Located in historic old town where local shops and restaurants boast friendly service and small town appeal.
Home to the largest marina on Humboldt Bay, Woodley Island is also the headquarters for the Humboldt Bay Harbor, Recreation and Conservation District. It is a full-service marina providing slips for commercial and recreational vessels, guest docking facilities, a café and bar, and even rentals and lessons for amateur sailors.
This ornate home designed by famed architects Samuel and Joseph Newsome, was also a project to keep Mr. Carson’s mill workers employed during a slowdown in the industry. As a nationally recognized historic structure, the mansion is kept in virtually the same condition as when it was completed in 1886.

Built in 1964 by Georgia Pacific, the Samoa Pulp Mill is the only total chlorine free pulp mill in the U.S. The mill was converted to chlorine free (TCF) with blended processing by Louisiana Pacific over a decade ago and is now used for shipments to its paperboard mills in Asia.
This Queen Anne style house was a wedding gift from lumber baron, William Carson, to his son J. Milton Carson. Built in 1889 by the Newsom Brothers, it was later inherited by two German sisters who operated it as a boarding house until 1942, when it was seized by the U.S. government as Nazi property. Today, it is leased as commercial space.
